Prior to construction of the Project, the site located at 428 North Canal Street consisted of two small metal buildings and a wood framed residence with the balance being open land. Both of the metal buildings were being used by the Owner for their ongoing business.

To allow the Owner?s business to continue to function on the site during construction, the Project was constructed in two phases

DBD Structures provided general construction of the Project including design/build services for the two Star Building Systems? manufactured steel buildings and the electrical, fire sprinkler and plumbing trades.

The Project incorporated complete site development including demolition of the existing structures, raising the existing site elevation by three feet; new electrical, fire sprinkler, natural gas and sanitary sewer connections, city sidewalk, curb and gutter and on-site curb, gutter, grading, paving, landscape and irrigation.

The two new buildings were designed and constructed using Star Building Systems? manufactured steel structure and exterior metal roof and wall panel systems combined with clay brick, storefront glazing, parapets and mansard roofs for the streetfront exposures.

The scope of work inside the buildings included 5,000 sf of 150 lb/sf live-load mezzanine, 5,000 sf of interior office improvements, electrical distribution, high-bay warehouse lighting and a fire sprinkler system.

The Project was successfully constructed at a very reasonable cost per square foot with minimal disruption to the Owner?s ongoing business.
